A walk around Paradise.

A little of this, a little of that and an update on Layla Yateemah Al Jannat.  The Evening Orphan of Paradise.  You’ll remember she lost her mother, Seeta RCA, to an embolism.  We’ve given her another “roommate” (while Oreo seemed to love Layla, alas, her love was unrequited!  Actually they had no trouble getting along, we just couldn’t keep Oreo in the outside pen and that created a BIG problem.)  Oreo is back with Hannah and Lucy is not Layla’s new best friend!!!  Enjoy.

Ah, the antics continue – but it’s “show time”!

The preparations are complete, the horses are made ready, the “Paradise” crowd has gathered.  Not only did the owners of the competing horses show up (Miss Jeannette, we missed you.  Sorry you could not attend.) but it was an unexpected surprise when Ann Trausch showed up to add her support to “Team Paradise”!  We’d also like to express our deepest gratitude to Beth Witt for presenting horses in the show ring for us so brilliantly.  Great job, Beth, and congratulations on your Championship with Psychedelic Magic.  I suppose I should point out that “Team Paradise” had both the Champion and Reserve Champion straight Egyptian Mares (Al Aneeqah and Amirah Scapina), the Reserve Champion straight Egyptian Stallion (El Riyah Antar), Champion Open Mare 3 years and older ATH (Psychedelic Magic), and the Liberty Champion (Malik Al Jannat).  It was a GOOD Day!

It’s getting close to “Show Time!”

Early morning preparations, the contestants begin to gather, the anticipation and anxiety builds!!!  We had people we met in Andalusia who told us they watch the blogs every morning and a couple thanked us for posting the training sessions.  They said they learned a lot and enjoyed seeing how our horses respond to the “no pain” techniques.  Alas, one told me that his horses didn’t seem to respond the same way ours did.  ha ha.  Don’t despair, it won’t happen overnight.  Stick with it.  I hope you enjoy today’s post.

Upon Arrival in Andalusia, AL…The Work Begins!

Andalusia, AL Horse Show.  We arrived, after about a 6 hour drive, without much incident.  The alternator on the truck started to fail on the way down but we made it safe and sound.  We immediately disinfected the stalls and checked them for protruding objects that may have been left in the stalls by those who came before us.  Things like nails, screws, staples, rope or twine…anything a horse could hurt themselves on, had to be removed.  Next we piled in and spread around the shavings in each horse stall so we could get them settled in, fed and watered.  Next we worked on getting the sleeping rooms covered and enclosed so everyone could get some sleep.  This video picks up the next morning.  We hope you enjoy seeing the behind the scenes activity. Please enter your comments below as we would love to read what you have to say.

The First in a Series: Loading up for the show!

In this series of blogs we’ll be sharing our participation in the All Alabama Arabian Horse Show in Andalusia, AL.  We’ve attended this show now for several years and we thought we’d share what all goes into it.  While we won’t show all the boring stuff like all the preparation the days leading up to our departure like loading the trailer with all the supplies, the hay, the feed, the lumber for the set up, the med kit, the tools, the ladders, the show tack and all the other stuff we’ll need, we will start with the loading of the horses.  For some of you this may be boring.  Others may find it interesting, especially those who have ever had difficulty getting horses to load into a trailer.  In the days to follow we’ll share some of the other antics that go on.  I hope you enjoy today’s post.

Seeta’s Last Foal In Her New Home With New Friends

Seeta’s filly seems to be doing OK.  She and Oreo have settled down and cohabitating pretty well.  Both are eating together (boy, that stuff sure doesn’t look very appetizing) and, so far, there have been no “issues”.  Plenty of humans spent time with them yesterday and the filly certainly seemed to enjoy the attention.  The loss of Seeta is devastating but she will live on through her progeny and her legacy will endure.  Good bye dear Seeta.  May you rest in peace.

Sadly, Bethany Was Off Yesterday So I’m All You’ve Got

I know this will be a disappointment for you all but Bethany was off yesterday and I had to pick up the camera and do the narration.  Granted I can’t do what she does with the same panache but perhaps it will do this time.  Please bear with me.  Bethany will be back later this morning.  We’ll be heading to the Andalusia horse show tomorrow so she should have plenty of great opportunities to get some really good stuff so the pain of this post shouldn’t last too long.  Thanks for your sympathy and patience.

A Walk in the Pasture with Moms and Babies!

A walk in the pasture with moms and new babies (with a little humor thrown in).  At Paradise the young foals are handled by humans every day.  We want our horses to be eager to be in the company of humans so our staff knows that the time they spend with foals MUST be pleasant time overall.  In spite of that, we take temps daily so as to ensure they are healthy and happy.  Everything we do is intended to contribute to the well-being of the horse.  Thank you, Bethany, for a great job.

In The Spirit of March Madness!!

After the series on foaling I thought you might enjoy something with some humor, so here goes!  The featured horse is Egyptian Event Champion, El Riyah Antar (Scapa x Ibriiziy Infidel), owned by Mary Jane Jones from Daphne, Alabama.  Watch for him next week in Andalusia, AL where he will show in the 2 year-old colts class.  Enjoy!

The final episode in the foaling series.

I hope you like our series on “Foaling”.  We’re not saying this is the ONLY way…heck, we’re not even saying it’s the RIGHT way.  We’re just saying this is how we do it at “Paradise”.  We hope you like what you see and we hope you’ll someday visit us and see that it is for real.  A place where horses and humans are treated with kindness and respect.  We’d love to have you join us in “Paradise”.
